This file is an English translation of the Meem License, provided for guidance only.

The Arabic text in the file LICENSE is the authoritative version. Where the two differ, the Arabic text prevails.

Meem License (Version 1.0)

"The Software" includes: the Meem compiler, its tools and its standard library; the Meem editor; the Meem language, its specifications, documentation and examples; and the Meem name and logo.

1. What is permitted, free of charge:

a) Downloading and running the Software for any purpose: personal, educational or commercial.

b) Writing programs in the Meem language, and building, selling and distributing them without restriction or fee. The programs you write and the executable files produced from them are yours alone. Any runtime libraries that the compiler embeds in the output file may be distributed with it.

c) Reading, studying and modifying the source code for your own private, personal use, without publishing the modifications.

d) Copying the official packages of the Software without any modification and distributing them free of charge, keeping this License as it is.

e) Quoting short excerpts from the documentation for teaching and review, with credit to the source.

2. What is not permitted without written permission from the Project:

a) Selling or renting the Software itself, or including it in a product that is sold or distributed for money or other benefit.

b) Publishing or distributing any modified version of the Software or any version derived from it, or any fork of it, under any name.

c) Creating or distributing a compiler, editor, language or product that competes with, imitates or substitutes for the Software, by relying on the Software's code, documentation, specifications, design, examples or texts, or by copying its structure, the names of its keywords and its library in a way that makes it an imitation of Meem.

d) Using the name ميم or Meem, its logo or mark, or anything resembling them, in any product, service, domain or account, or in a way that suggests it is official, affiliated with the Project or endorsed by it.

e) Removing this License or the copyright notices.

f) Using the Software, its documentation or its code to train models or products that reproduce it or compete with it.

g) Re-hosting the Software or offering it as an online service for anything other than your personal use (such as a platform for running code) without permission.

3. This License does not diminish your right to write your own programs in Meem and use them as you wish (Article 1(b)).

4. Third-party components (such as mold, musl, LLVM and the Cairo font) are subject to their own licenses, which are listed in the third-party file. This License does not change them.

5. No warranty: the Software is provided "as is", without any warranty, express or implied, and the Meem Project bears no liability for any damage resulting from its use, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

6. Termination: your license terminates automatically upon any violation of Article 2, and is restored only by written permission from the Project.

7. Later versions of this License may be issued; the version under which you downloaded the Software remains in force for it.
